Sara Saudkova

Sara’s work is (or perhaps just pretends to be) a natural look into some of the most common things in life.

Even before posting this page to the web, I had friends asking why I would include this woman’s pictures next to some of the best and most famous examples in the history of photography.
My simple answer was (and still is) that I post here what I feel to be inspiring. And Sara Saudkova’s pictures are unquestionably inspiring, to me.
Also, there is a strong footprint of Jan Saudek in them, which should not be underestimated.

Sara’s eyes

While I am still inclined to believe that her best pictures are characterized by freedom from artificiality, affectation, or inhibitions, yet I am also bound to recognize that such an attitude is probably neither Sara’s true character by nature, nor it is all due to her inner spontaneity: instead, it has positively been acquired and somehow inherited from Jan’s attitudes. Her many years spent next to Jan Saudek had an influence, definitely.
Technically, she (sort of) absorbed Jan’s taste for black-and-white photography, at times toned and hand-tinted.
Overall, though, I find no sign of a true personal technique development.

Camera with a smile

Surely, the amount of cheer and tenderness we find in her photographs is a distinctive signature of her style.
Also, her being a mother of four, certainly had a role into turning Sara’s eyes towards parenting, children, love and youth in general. For this very reason I am more than happy to share her pictures here.

Enjoy!
